I have had the luxury of owning both cars and comparing both vehicles for a very long I compared a 2004 BMW 525i to a 2007 Cadillac CTS 3.6. Hands down the Cadillac CTS is the best car from the two. I leased a 2004 BMW 525 for my wife when it had just came out. Less then 3 months from leasing it, my wife got a little scratch on the front bumper when she was trying to come into the garage. I guess she was feeling guilty but she asked me to drive the BMW the next day and she took the Honda Accord. The next morning I plowed the BMW into a Van then I hit the mountain side of the freeway.

I completely destroyed the front end of the car and caused major engine damage. And, because of the residual value and some other BS the insurance company told me, they didn’t total the car which meant I was stuck with a badly damaged, brand new BMW for my wife. And if you know anything about brand new cars is that they are never the same after a major accident. No matter how and who puts your car back together its never the same. Which by the way, because the 525 was brand new it took over 4 months to get all the part to put it back together. The entire process of getting the car back to driving condition was an absolute nightmare.
More Cadillacs
It was a very humbling experience to say the least. However, less then 2 weeks from destroying the first BMW 525, I took my wife the dealership and leased another new BMW 525. However, this time I let her pick the color. This meant we had two brand new BMW 525s which was not the car I wanted to drive but I figured why the heck not, after all it is a very nice luxury car.
The 525 handles extremely well and you feel like you are in a heavy, safe car. Its very likely that the safety of the BMW 525 is what saved my life but it is what it is. That’s about the nicest thing I have to say about the 525. Here are the negative comments I have about the 525. Its slow and the acceleration is disappointing. The i drive function is overrated and the turning radius is less then impressive.
After 2 and half years of driving that 525 it was time to turn it in and get a new car. I considered several cars and finally got around to test drive the Cadillac CTS 3.6. From the first test drive I was in love. After I bought it I only loved it more as I got to get used to the car. The CTS is much faster and it may be hard to believe, but much more comfortable then the BMW 525. The turning radius is incredible, I make turns with the Cadillac I could only dream of making with the BMW. Did I mention the Cadillac is fast? The acceleration and takeoff make a sad example of the BMW 525.
Overall the Cadillac CTS is a far better car for the money and even if they were the same exact price, I would hands down pick the CTS. Since owning the Cadillac CTS I feel bad about people who own the 525 as they do not know what they are missing. In my mind its not even a close call or anything. All around, hands down the Cadillac CTS is better and as far as looks, the CTS looks meaner and more dangerous then the BMW 525.
